All of us here
at
East West
Karate are excited you are considering studying
Martial Arts with us. At East West you will find:
-
A friendly
environment
-
A family
environment
to study the
Martial Arts in.
Our instructors teach you to BECOME a Black Belt, not
just wear a Black Belt!
The mind of a
Martial Artist is filled with many motions they have
learned:
-
Strikes
-
Blocks
-
Kicks
-
Sweeps
-
Takedowns
-
Throwing
-
Escaping
These skills are
only used as a last resort and only known as Self
Defense.
Once an unfortunate
need to fight arrives, the Martial Artist uses every motion or
Technique, every ounce of energy and determination to overcome his opponent quickly and effectively. Martial Artists
can defend themselves because they:
-
Can employ numerous motions or
techniques to defend themselves
-
Don't become
tired as they push past exhaustion, sweating, strains
and bruises, all in an attempt to achieve self
perfection
-
Can focus their power and energy to
neutralize an opponent
Too frequently Belts become the
focus of students and parents; many
people are too concerned with their rank rather then
their ability.
"Remember -
knowledge is in your brain, but your brain won't
defend you! What's around your waist won't help
you in your personal defense!"
Philosophy exists for many reasons: to understand the world,
to comprehend things as they are in themselves, to detect
errors in thought, to offer a solution to fundamental
questions that beset humanity and so on.
One of
the primary philosophical tenets of the Martial Arts would
be a paradox to the western analytical mind: the
preservation of life rather than the taking of it through
developing amazing physical skills that on the surface level
seem violent and aggressive.
To the
Martial
Artists there is no paradox because the Martial Artist has
only one thing to perfect and that is him/herself. In
that sense then he/she has only one opponent, the self with
its ego. They are preoccupied with centering themselves away
from the everyday trappings of the world that centers on "ME"!
Consider
Burdens are only burdens if we
allow them to be or become burdens!
Take a small ball (say about 5 ounces) and hold it in
your hand with your arm extended in front of you with your
palm facing up. 5 ounces, you could probably hold it all
day. Well for a minute or two it isn't bad, 10 minutes later
and your arm starts getting heavy, longer and your arm
starts shaking.
Hold it long enough and your arm will begin to drop.
Continue holding it long enough and it will become a burden.
Everyone has to put their burden(s) down sooner or later
or they will drag you down.
If you carry your burdens all the time, sooner or later, you
will not be able to carry on, the burden will become more
difficult to bear. For this simple exercise, you have to
put the ball down, remove the burden, rest then hold the
ball again once you are more refreshed.Parents/Adults - If you bring work home, you've brought
the burden home. Amazingly, if you leave it at work it will
still be there in the morning. Pick it back up the next day.
Life is short, relax, rest and enjoy it!
